The complete process for NIOS 2024 admission will be online. The admission process will be conducted in different streams and the candidates can apply in any stream as per their needs. However, only one stream can be chosen by a candidate. The details of the different streams and the procedure to apply for admission through different streams are discussed further.
- Stream 1: The candidates can apply for secondary or senior secondary course from NIOS throughout the year via stream 1. Those who apply for admission through stream 1 will be assigned an AI (study center) as per their choice given at the time of admission.
- Stream 2*: The applicants who appeared but were not able to clear the exam or the eligible candidates who didn’t appear in the Public Examination of Secondary/Senior Secondary level from any recognized Examination Board can appear in the stream 2 admission process.
- Stream 3* (for appearing in the on demand examination system for secondary level): The candidates who were not able to appear for or clear the Public Examination of the Secondary level from any recognized Board and want to appear through On Demand Examination System of NIOS for the Secondary level can apply through this stream. In addition to this, the passed candidates who wish to upgrade their qualification can apply too (maximum 4 subjects).

* The candidates can upload their failed mark sheet or admit card along with the application form and other relevant documents. However, the original failed mark sheet needs to be submitted (to the regional center of NIOS for stream 2) by those who had applied for Transfer of Credit (TOC). Reference number must be mentioned at the back of the mark sheet.

Note:
- The candidates under stream 3 & 4 can only appear in the Examination only through On Demand Examination mode and not the one conducted in October/November and April/May.
- TOC facility is available for every stream.
- The applicants under stream 2, 3 & 4 can opt for different or additional subjects from their parent board by paying an amount of Rs. 600/- per subject in addition to the admission/registration and exam fee.
- Scanned copy of document containing any of the Aadhaar Number/Aadhaar Enrolment number/Passport number/Ration Card number/Bank Account Number or any other valid government identity must be uploaded as a proof of authentication.

Procedure for NIOS Admission 2024 (By Learners)
The admission form for NIOS is available on the official website nios.ac.in. Using a valid email id and password, the candidate will have to register themselves. After successful registration, the candidate will fill the application form providing all the required details and uploading scanned copies of important documents. Postal address is also required during the form filling and I-card, self-leaning material, etc. may be sent to this address. The examination fee will submitted through debit card/credit card/net banking. A bank draft drawn in favor of Secretary, NIOS payable at respective Regional Centres of NIOS is also acceptable (only for stream 1).
Those who wish to make payment via draft needs to send the hard copy of the filled-in application form along with the draft and other important documents to the NIOS Regional Center. Applicants’ name and reference number must be written at the back of the draft. To ensure timely delivery, the candidates are advised to send the application form through Speed Post services of the Postal Department and keep the original receipt issued by Post Office for future reference.
After final submission of form, printout of application form, acknowledgement receipt, instruction for learner and address slip of the addressee should be printed.
Procedure for NIOS Admission 2024 (By AI (study center)/Common Service Center/ Authorised Facilitation Centre)
The candidates who find any difficulty in filling the application form by themselves can take help from the AI (study center). They will also help you to understand pre-admission counselling, choice of Study Centres/Course, Medium of Instruction, Transfer of Credit, Credit Accumulation and other features of NIOS. The procedure followed by them will be the same as the above. There are numerous CSCs NIOS Facilitation Centres also that will provide online services to the learners at pre-fixed charges.
In case the admission is done through Common Services Centres (CSC), the fee could be paid via Electronic Wallet of CSCs.

Proof of Residence
- Ration Card/Aadhaar Card/Appointment Letter from the Employer on Letter Head, or water/telephone/electricity bill/statement of running bank account/income tax assessment order/Voter Identity Card or Parents Passport in case of minor
- For rented accommodation, any proof of permanent address along with any proof of present rented accommodation
- For applicant belonging to the category of street children/destitute/migrants/slum dwellers/orphans who do not have residential address of their own will have to provide a self certificate stating their category (mentioned above) and certify that they do not have own residential address. However a contact address will be required for NIOS communication. The self certificate has to be countersigned by the sponsoring Guardian including NGO/Orphan Home and attested by a Govt. Servant/Panchayat level Official/Nagar Nigam Officer/Block level Officer/District level Officer or higher level Officer. Complete name, designation and address with their official stamp of both the sponsoring and the attesting authorities are required.
Re-admission of Ex-NIOS Learners
The NIOS candidates who have completed their five years of admission period but were not able to complete the course may take re-admission. The credit of the subject passed will be transferred on submission of original mark sheet. However, these subjects must be passed during the last 10 years and not before that.
Transfer of Credit (TOC)
Students who have passed in at least one subject at their secondary/senior secondary exam (from any of the below-listed boards), but have not qualified the course and seek TOC can apply in NIOS in the respective course.

- The candidate can get their credit transferred from their parent board in the maximum of 2 subjects. However, these subjects must be passed with at least 33% and within the last five year only.
- If the candidate has passed from any recognized board within 2 years (other than the 33 mentioned above) will granted TOC only if their result data is available on the board website. Else, the candidate will have to get his/her result data verified by the concerned board and submit it with the application form.
- Complete details of TOC subjects, marks obtained, roll number etc., should be mentioned in the Admission Form. The original mark sheet (should not be laminated) issued by the parent board along with requisite fee will also be required. The credits will only be transferred in the subjects included in NIOS Scheme of Studies and the Scheme of Examination.
Dual Enrolment and Part Admission
This admission provision is for the applicants who are studying in a regular school or have passed the secondary/senior secondary exam, but wish to upgrade their knowledge and qualification. Only mark sheet and no other certificate will be provided to such candidates.
Foreign Board Candidates
Those with HSC/SSC from any foreign board will have to attach a certificate form from the concerned Embassy and Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as a proof that the exam passed by the candidate is equivalent to the Indian HSC/SSC examination.
Important Notes
- Admission form received incomplete will be rejected and no refund of the application fee will be entertained.
- Candidates debarred from their board for following UFM (unfair means) are not eligible.
- Those who have passed their secondary level exam from an unrecognized board are not eligible.
- Those who provide any kind of information about them that is found to be not true, their admission can be cancelled at any stage.
