Admission to undergraduate medical courses in all medical institutions in India is done on the basis of the NEET (National Entrance cum Eligibility Test). NTA is the regulatory body that conducts the NEET exam every year. Eligibility Criteria for NEET 2024

Age limit:
- The candidates should complete 17 years of age at the time of admission or on or before 31 December 2024. There is no upper age limit.
Educational qualification (any one of the following):
- A candidate who has appeared or is appearing in class 12 or an equivalent exam in 2024 with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as the main subject is eligible to apply. OR
- Those who have passed the Intermediate/ Pre-degree Examination in Science of a recognized university/ board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Biotechnology, and English are eligible too. OR
- A pass in the Pre-medical or Pre-professional exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology, and English after passing the Pre-University/ Higher Secondary or equivalent exam is required. OR
- Candidates in the first year of the three years degree course of a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English are eligible. OR
- Those who have passed the B.Sc exam of an Indian University with not less than two of the Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology subjects, and English can apply.
Application Process
The NEET 2024 application process is completed in three steps- registration, application form, and fee payment. Students can access the registration and application form via the official NEET website https://neet.nta.nic.in.
Step 1: Registration
- In the registration form, the candidates need to enter details like name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, identification type, mobile number, email address, and postal address.
- The applicants also need to create a password and select a security question and provide its answer.
- After the successful submission of the personal details, an application number will be generated.
- Using this application number the remaining steps of the application form can be completed.
Step 2: Application Form
- In the application form, the candidates will enter their category, nationality, disability status, choice of exam center, and medium of the question paper.
- The candidate also has to fill in the complete academic details of classes 10, 11 & 12/ equivalent in the application form.
- Candidates’ photograph, signature, fingers & thumb impression, and present & permanent address proof are to be uploaded in the form in scanned format.
Step 3: Fee Payment
- After completing all the steps of the online application form, candidates may remit the examination fee.
- Payment can be done through a Debit card/ Credit card/ Net-banking/ UPI through State Bank of India/ Canara Bank/ HDFC Bank/ ICICI Bank.
- Once the payment of the fee is done successfully, a confirmation page will be generated. The generation of the confirmation page confirms the final submission of the application form.

NEET Exam Pattern 2024
A basic overview of the NEET 2024 exam pattern is provided below.
- Mode of exam: Pen & paper-based test
- Duration of exam: 03 hours and 20 minutes
- Medium of test: English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Assamese, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Tamil, Marathi, Odia, Telugu, and Urdu
- Number of questions: 50 (45 to be attempted)
- Total marks: 720
- Marking scheme: Every right answer will fetch 4 marks to the candidates.
- Negative marking: One mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) will release the notification regarding the syllabus and it will be made available on the official NEET website.
NEET 2024 Admit Card
- Admit cards for NEET 2024 can be downloaded from the official NTA website.
- Candidates will have to appear for the exam at the given center on the date and time indicated in their admit card.
- No candidate will be allowed to appear at the examination center without the admit card.
- In case candidates are unable to download their admit card from the website, they can approach the helpline.
- In case of any discrepancy in the particulars of admit card, the candidate may immediately approach the helpline.
Display of OMR sheets and Responses
- After the examination is over, NTA will display the scanned images of OMR answer sheets and recorded responses of all candidates.
- Candidates can check their answer sheets from the website https://neet.nta.nic.in/.
- An opportunity is provided to the students to submit grievances against the OMR sheet with a non-refundable processing fee.
- Challenges made by the applicants will be checked by the NTA and the updated response will be uploaded on the website.
NEET 2024 Answer Key
- The NTA will display the provisional answer key of the questions on its website.
- In case of any doubt in the answer key, candidates can challenge it by paying a non-refundable processing fee.
- Challenges made by the students will be verified by the NTA with the help of a panel of experts.
- A revised answer key will be drafted and the result will be prepared on the basis of it.
NEET Result 2024
- The National Testing Agency will evaluate the Answer Sheets and display the result on the official website.
- Afterward, the candidates can download their respective scorecards.
- The NTA will then prepare the merit list/ All India Rank (AIR) as per qualifying criteria.
- The result of NEET may be utilized by Central and State Governments, private institutions, etc for admission to their MBBS/ BDS course.
