About National Institute of Technology Durgapur
Established in the year 1960, National Institute of Technology, Durgapur commonly known as NIT Durgapur or NITD is a centrally funded engineering college situated in Durgapur in West Bengal state. The college was set up with aim of imparting quality education in the field of technical education in India. Previously the college was known as regional engineering college (REC), Durgapur and it was considered among the first eight regional engineering institutes in the country. Now the college is one of the 30 National Institutes of Technology in India and has been recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the National Institutes of Technology (NIT) Act, 2007.
Campus
The NITD campus is spread over 187 acres of land and has excellent infrastructure consisting all major facilities to the staff and student. The college campus of NIT, Durgapur is situated approx 161KM north-west of Kolkata on the Howrah-Delhi railway route. The institute enjoys one of the best academic networks as many famous colleges and research institutes are situated near the campus including Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur, Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI) Kolkata etc.
Courses
NIT, Durgapur is offering various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various disciplines of engineering such as Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Biotechnology etc. It also offers Master of Business Administration (MBA).
